INWOOD — A direct descendant of Aaron Burr, the former U.S. vice president who shot Alexander Hamilton to death in an 1804 duel, can be seen reenacting the famed gunfight on public television Monday night.

Inwood native and Inwood Canoe Club commodore Antonio Burr, whose ancestor was a first cousin, once removed, of the former vice president, plays the role of his distant relative on the docudrama "Rediscovering Alexander Hamilton," airing on PBS Monday evening at 10 p.m.

Burr is no stranger to acting the part of his famous relative, having already reenacted the famous duel on its 200th anniversary in 2004.

"In my opinion, this is actually the most compelling 'Shakespearean' story of the founding of our fair Republic," Burr said in an interview with DNAinfo.
