MANHATTAN SUPREME COURT — A Manhattan judge denied a motion to dismiss felony charges against Uma Thurman's alleged stalker, who is accused of calling her after being ordered not to.

Jack Jordan, 39, was charged with violating an order of protection against Thurman. He was convicted of stalking and harassing Thurman three years ago.

Jordan, a schizophrenic, was sentenced to three years' probation after the conviction. He called her at her Manhattan home late last year, despite a court order to refrain from any contact with her, prosecutors say.

He was ordered held on $500,000 bail again on Wednesday, although his lawyer has argued for a reduction in bail.

The lawyer, Sam Roberts, said he was trying to work on a plea deal with prosecutors and hoping they would agree to sentencing him to psychiatric treatment instead of jail.

Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Gregory Carro issued a written decision explaining the grounds for his refusal to dismiss the criminal contempt charges, which are felonies.

Jordan faces additional stalking and harassment charges that are misdemeanors.
