MANHATTAN — Cathie Black's opponents had their day in court Thursday as an Albany Civil Supreme Court judge heard arguments against the executive-turned-schools chancellor, who is slated to take charge of city schools Jan. 3.
In three separate suits filed challenging her takeover, parents argued that Black does not have the education experience required to be chancellor and accused Schools Commissioner David Steiner of breaking the law when he granted her a waiver allowing her to serve.
"We argue that Commissioner [David] Steiner misinterpreted the law," said Norman Siegel, an attorney who filed one of the lawsuits against Black on behalf of thirteen parents, including Brooklyn Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries.
