DA Seeks Witnesses to Upper West Side Hit-and-Run Updated December 1, 2010 6:12am

MANHATTAN — Prosecutors are looking for witnesses to come forward so they can pursue additional charges against the Bronx woman accused of mowing down an Upper West Side woman in a fatal hit-and-run, sources said

Jessica Altruz, 24, of the Bronx, currently faces up to seven years in prison for leaving the scene of the deadly accident that killed 67-year-old Margaret Fisher. But at Altruz's arraignment prosecutors said she could face manslaughter or other serious felonies.

The office is looking for more evidence to support those charges, sources said. 

Altruz's Dodge Charger allegedly plowed into Fisher, a retired nurse, at the West 93rd Street and Columbus Avenue intersection as she reportedly carrying groceries home.

Altruz allegedly then fled the scene but was apprehended one block away at the next intersection.

"I had the light," Altruz allegedly told police as they took her into custody.

Prosecutors said a witness at the scene said she thought the calamity was a film shoot because of Altruz's erratic driving and the way the victim was thrown.

The Manhattan DA's office is asking for anyone who saw the hit and run or who may have captured photo or video from the scene to call the Vehicular Crimes Unit at (212) 335-3855.

Altruz has been held on $100,000 bail since her arraignment on Saturday.
