MANHATTAN — Russian spy Anna Chapman, and nine other double agents, were betrayed by their boss, and now the Russian government wants him dead, according to media reports.

The 28-year-old, red-headed Chapman lived the life of luxury in the Financial District but feds said she wanted to infiltrate political circles and send information back to Russia. She and the rest of the alleged spies were sent back to Moscow in July after pleading guilty to acting as foreign agents.

The group was outed by their boss, known only as "Colonel Shcherbakov" who was in charge of the country's deep-cover spies, according to the newspaper Kommersant, the New York Post reported.

Shcherbakov escaped to the United States just days before the FBI busted Chapman and the rest of the spy ring, according to the paper.

Russian officials called Shcherbakov's betrayal the worst they had seen and vowed revenge, according to Kommersant.

"Every day he will fear retribution," a Kremlin official said, according to Kommersant. "The fate of such a person is unenviable."

"He will carry this with him all his life and will fear retribution every day."
