LOWER EAST SIDE — Call him the burglar of Orchard Street, say police.
A man has been breaking into apartments along the trendy Lower East Side street all summer long, stealing laptops, cellphones and credit cards, which he has used to make purchases, police said.
The suspect, who has allegedly broken into buildings on the strip between Canal and Delancey streets at least seven times, began his spree on June 28 when he slipped into 75 Orchard Street through an unlocked door, the NYPD said.
Since then, he has struck 96, 19, 94, 78 and 45 Orchard Street, police said. On Aug. 25, he allegedly stole a number of laptops, a cellphone, a camera and cash when he broke into two separate buildings.
Police describe the suspect as a black man between 18 and 25, about 5’10’’ and 210 pounds.
The NYPD asks anyone with information on the robberies to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or submit tips online, or by texting them to 274637 (Crimes) and then entering TIP577.
