MANHATTAN CRIMINAL COURT — Tennessee Titans quarterback Chris Simms, son of Giants legend Phil Simms, ducked a warrant for his arrest Monday after he didn't show up for a court appearance.

Prosecutors wanted the backup signal-caller arrested for failing to appear at a hearing on charges he was smoking marijuana while driving on Houston Street July 1. Judge Michael Yavinsky said he was aware Simms would not be at the hearing and granted him a reprieve.

"I want him here at a later date," the judge said.

Simms was scheduled to take part in a Titans preseason game Monday night against the Arizona Cardinals.

Simms was ordered to appear on Oct. 7, a Thursday, for a hearing — a date selected to accommodate his football scheduled.

"Mondays are bad because Sunday he works, so let's not pick a Monday," the judge said.

After being pulled over by police back in July, Simms allegedly made statements to confessing he smoked pot before taking the wheel with his pregnant wife, Danielle, as a passenger in the car.

"I was smoking marijuana in the car earlier," Simms told police, according to the criminal complaint.
