MANHATTAN - It’s music to art lovers’ ears.

In New York City’s latest public arts display, 60 pianos are being placed throughout Manhattan with an open invite to budding musicians to entertain.

The installation – the  creation of British artist Luke Jerram – is the latest in an art program which covered Central Park in saffron in 2005’s “The Gates,” and created “New York City Waterfalls” in  rivers and the harbor in 2008.

“Play Me, I’m Yours” will put the instruments in Times Square, Lincoln Center. Rockefeller Center and Central Park, along with dozens more public places,  between June 21 and July 5.

At the same time, a similar exhibition will be put in place in London.

A website will be set up inviting users to post photos, video and stories involving the pianos.

“I believe in the creative potential of New York City, and … it’s things like this that make me extra proud to be a New Yorker,” said singer Alicia Keys, who is helping promote the project.

The pianos have been gracing international cities since 2008. Instruments used in Manhattan will be donated to schools and community events after the event closes, promoters said.
