MANHATTAN — Rice High School hoops standout Kadeem Jack is set to make an announcement about his basketball future as early as Wednesday.
But it might not be the one top college coaches are hoping for.
"He's not committing to a college," Damian Leslie, a close advisor to Jack told DNAinfo. "I don't think it's what anyone expects."
Most observers have expected Jack to commit to a school. Earlier this year, it appeared his choices were between UConn, Arizona and Arkansas and Miami.
“Every school is equal to me unless a school just straight out wows me,” Jack told SNY's Adam Zagoria.
Before this season, where the 6-foot-8 forward helped lead Rice to the Catholic High School Activities Association Class AA semifinal game, Jack reportedly had considered attending a post-high school prep school.
That option is still on the table.
“Kadeem said that he is not making any commitments to college," Rice coach Maurice Hicks told Zagoria. "He is considering prep school.”
Jack, who had a stand-out showing in the Jordan Classic at Madison Square Garden earlier this month, has made official visits to Miami and Arizona.
