MANHATTAN — Tweets about the Easter Sunday Times Square brawl led to more tweets in the past 24 hours as those purportedly involved in the melee warned each other about the media attention their micro-blogging was attracting.

Monday evening DNAinfo reported that Twitter users, including BADBOY_BUTTA and _650K, had spread news of their involvement in the Times Square melee via the social networking site and seemingly implicated several Harlem youth gangs in the process.

By Wednesday evening, as word continued to spread of Twitter’s role in the Times Square melee — which led to four shootings and 33 arrests — _650K had abandoned his Twitter page.

BADBOY_BUTTA vowed to quit the site, saying “I’m OFF THIS” after followers recommended that he make his page private or change his Twitter name. He deleted his profile on Thursday.

The acronyms for Harlem Youth gangs, including Original Young Gangsters (OYG) and Get Money Boys (GMB), turned up in many of the tweets, and users warned each other against associating themselves with the gangs online for fear of retribution from the police.

“OYG N BMD HOT ON TWITTER COPZ IS WATCHIN THEM...ITS SAYS IT N THE PAPER UNFOLLOW OYG N GMB,” one tweet read.

“THESE DUMM AZS GMB & OYG NIKAZ TWITTERIN THEY CRIMES,” said another critical user.
