MANHATTAN SUPREME COURT — The pending closure of St. Vincent's Hospital has had a ripple effect on the criminal case against Gigi Jordan, the woman accused of murdering her 8-year-old autistic son at the Peninsula Hotel, her lawyer said Thursday.
Gerald Shargel is expected to ask a judge Thursday to have Jordan released into home confinement now that an inpatient psychiatric program he wanted her admitted to will likely end at the troubled hospital.
St. Vincent's shuttered all inpatient care services earlier this week.
A judge was scheduled to decide on a bid to release Jordan on $5 million bail on Thursday afternoon, one day after lawyers from both sides scrambled to file papers reflecting the St. Vincent's situation.
The multi-millionaire also offered to pay a staff of full-time security guards to be responsible for detaining her at the hospital.
Jordan has been held at an East Elmhurst correctional facility since her arrest in February.
Prosecutors have balked at letting her out on bail because they believe the wealthy socialite is a flight risk. She had offered to pay for full-time security guards to detain her at the hospital.
