MANHATTAN FEDERAL COURT — Kirk Douglas, Catherine Zeta-Jones and NBA icon Pat Riley have petitioned for sympathy for actor Cameron Douglas, who pleaded guilty to drug charges earlier this year.

"He didn't express any self-pity, nor did he ask for any," wrote Kirk Douglas, Cameron's legendary 93-year-old grandfather, according to the Associated Press.

"The only sorrow he expressed was for the trouble he had caused others. ... I was shocked when he got in such a mess," the "Spartacus" actor continued.

Douglas, 31, was charged with peddling large amounts of crystal meth. He pleaded guilty on Jan. 27 and faces a minimum of 10 years in federal prison.

The Hollywood scion's girlfriend, Kelly Sott, 33, was also arrested charged with delivering drugs to Douglas while he was under house arrest.

Actress Catherina Zeta-Jones, Cameron's stepmother, called Douglas "a considerate, worthy human being," according to reports.

Pat Riley, former Chicago Bulls coach and Douglas family friend, told Manhattan Federal Court Judge Richard Berman that Douglas has a drug problem and deserves the chance to rehabilitate.

Douglas "can become a valuable, responsible productive person in society," Riley wrote to Berman on Miami Heat stationary, according to the Daily News.

"Cameron is not a criminal," he added. "His criminal behavior cannot be tolerated and should bear consequences. I ask for mercy, Judge. Can we please save this 'ONE.'"

Douglas is scheduled to be sentenced next week.
