MANHATTAN — An off-duty police officer chased down suspects involved in an East Harlem shootout that left one man wounded Wednesday night, NYPD sources told the Daily News.

Two groups exchanged gunfire near the intersection of Lexington Avenue and 103rd Street at roughly 10 p.m., sources told the News.

"There was a shouting match going on across the intersection and it appeared as if it was unresolved but everyone was retreating," said Dr. Hans Spiegel, a Bronx physician, at the scene. "Apparently a few minutes afterwards someone produced a gun."

The officer chased down one of the groups apparently leading to a second round of shots being fired, during which an unidentified victim was hit in the leg, the News reported.

Police respond to a shoot-out at 103rd Street and Lexington Ave., Wednesday, March 17.

Investigators were trying to determine if the officer fired any shots during the incident, but one source told the News it did not appear as though he shot the victim.

Video obtained by DNAinfo shows a large police response to the incident, including heavily-armed officers and K-9 units. It also shows a man in an ambulance.

The victim was taken to Metropolitan Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, according to the paper.
