MANHATTAN SUPREME COURT — Rapper Dwayne "Lil Wayne" Carter was expected to be sentenced and sent to a city jail on Tuesday after pleading guilty to gun possession charges, but the judge granted a delay until March 2 so the star can undergo dental surgery.

Carter, 27, pleaded guilty in October to attempted criminal possession of a weapon.

He was arrested after police found a .40 caliber handgun in his possession in a marijuana smoke-filled tour van after a Beacon Theater concert in 2007.

The Miami resident has oral surgery scheduled for Feb. 12 in Florida. His attorney, Stacey Richman, said the recovery and monitoring period is "one week to 10 days," which was factored into his rescheduled sentencing.

The judge said March 2 is the last time he will allow an adjournment.

"On that day he's going to be sentenced and he's going to be prepared to serve that sentence," Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Charles Solomon said.

Carter, who was met by a swarm of photographers Tuesday afternoon, faces up to a year in a New York City jail. He also faces drug charges in Arizona from separate a tour bus bust, according to reports.
