Downtown Docket: Man Convicted in 2005 Stripper Murder on Upper East Side to Appeal

MANHATTAN — Paul Cortez, a yoga instructor who murdered his stripper ex-girlfriend, Catherine Woods, in her Upper East Side apartment is appealing his conviction.  Cortez's new lawyer says evidence at trial had been mishandled, according to the New York Post. [nypost.com]

A 78-year-old woman with more than 70 misdemeanor arrests was issued an arrest warrant by a Manhattan Supreme Court judge. Katherine Kelly was reportedly at the courthouse for a scheduled appearance, but was ill and physically unable to leave her car. [nypost.com]

Michael Cardozo will remain at his post as the city's top legal officer and advisor to the mayor during Mayor Michael Bloomberg's third term. Cardozo, the city's Corporation Counsel for nearly eight years, heads the city Law Department, which handles all legal matters involving the city and its agencies. [nyc.gov/law]
