Downtown Docket: Federal Court Not a Place for Tie-Dyed T's

A Central Park balloon artist had his day in federal court against the NYPD, but was ordered to change out of his tie-dyed T-shirt and brightly colored patch overalls. [New York Post]

Gov. David Paterson criticized the decision to bring Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and four other Sept. 11 suspects to civilian court in Manhattan, saying it "is not a decision that I would have made." He pledged to do everything in his authority to secure New York during the trial. [New York Times]

Stray bullet deaths are a growing trend this year, police are reporting. The most recent was Monday, when a Bronx teen was killed walking home from school. In April, an eighth-grader was killed during a block party in Harlem. [Daily News]
