MANHATTAN — This is the mugshot of former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik, who now sits in jail among the thieves, murderers and rapists he previously dedicated his life towards incarcerating.
The city's former "top cop" is currently in Westchester County Jail in Valhalla as "inmate No. 210-717," according to the New York Daily News.
But soon, Kerik could be behind lock and key at the downtown Manhattan correctional facility named after him.
Kerik, 54, is awaiting trial in Manhattan on charges that he accepted apartment renovations from a construction company in exchange for recommending the same firm for city contracts. Jury selection for the trial begins Monday.
U.S. District Judge Stephen Robinson revoked his $500,000 bail Tuesday after he disclosed confidential trial information to the trustee of his legal defense fund. The trustee shared the information with the Washington Times, which did not publish the details, the Associated Press reported.
Judge Robinson maintained Kerik needed to remain in jail so he wouldn't "influence witnesses or prospective jurors." Newsday reported.
Kerik is the only former New York City police commissioner to end up in jail.
