MANHATTAN — A woman at the USS Intrepid suffered a bizarre face injury Friday when a hook got caught in her eyebrow, authorities said.

The victim, who was not identified, sustained the injury to her face just before 3 p.m. inside of the gift shop of the famed aircraft carrier at 12th Avenue and West 46th Street, an FDNY spokesman said.

"I saw them bring a woman out with her head wrapped and her eye covered," said Cindy Hinnebusch, 51, a travel agent from Pittsburgh.

"It was a commotion," said Nathan Martin, 16, a student from Honesdale, PA, who was on a field class trip.

The injury did not appear to be life-threatening, the spokesman said. She was taken to New York Hospital in stable condition.

It was not clear where the hook came from or where the woman was on the ship when she was hurt. The Intrepid did not immediately have any information about the injury.

The freak accident was the latest incident Friday at the retired aircraft carrier. A few hours before, a Norwegian cruise liner, fighting heavy winds and choppy waters, grazed the Intrepid. No one was injured.

The Space Shuttle Enterprise, which will be moved by barge in a few months to the Intrepid, took a historic flyover tour of the city Friday morning.
