Van Catches Fire on Upper East Side

By Amy Zimmer | August 22, 2011 5:13pm

MANHATTAN — A van burst into flames on East 91st Street Monday morning, fire officials said.

The van was parked in front of 161 East 91st St., between Lexington and Third avenues, an FDNY spokesman said.

The blaze, which billowed clouds of smoke as flames engulfed the van, was contained to the vehicle. No one was in the car and no injuries were reported, the spokesman said.

Firefighters responded to the call at 11:40 a.m. and had the fire under control by 12:15 p.m., he said.

The cause was under investigation.
