MANHATTAN — Former NFL quarterback Chris Simms went on trial in Manhattan Criminal Court Monday to face charges of driving while under the influence of marijuana.

Simms, 30, turned down a plea deal after his arrest on Houston Street on June 30, 2010. Simms — who is the son of New York Giants legend Phil Simms — was pulled over while his pregnant wife was in the passenger seat, and police said his car reeked of marijuana and that he had bloodshot eyes.

Prosecutors said Simms told police, "I took four puffs," and that they wouldn't find additional marijuana in the car. "I smoked everything," he allegedly said.

Simms claims he was misquoted.

Jury selection began Monday morning, the New York Post reported. Prosecutors will call only one witness to the stand — the cop that pulled him over. Lawyers for Simms said they will call four defense witnesses, the paper said.
