MIDTOWN - Eloise would be shocked.
The owners of the Plaza Hotel have slapped the operators of the Oak Room and Bar with a $33 million suit, claiming that the famous bar's recent foray into burlesque dancing and other bad behaviors has tarnished its storied reputation, according to the New York Post.
The watering hole and eatery at the Central Park South Hotel, which opened in 1907 and has hosted everyone from presidents to Broadway legends, began staging burlesque shows on Sundays last year.
The suit, filed last week in Manhattan Supreme Court, claims that the dirty dancing, as well as a number of other factors, run contrary to the hotel's five-star standard, the report said.
The gripes include guests excessively drinking, using illegal drugs, "raucous and/or vulgar" behavior including table dancing and loud music, according to court papers.
The suit also says the eatery fell short of its lease obligation to maintain a rating of 70 in the Zagat Survey and earned a "C," the lowest grade, in a January health inspection.
A representative for the Oak Room and Bar could not immediately be reached for comment.
