MANHATTAN SUPREME COURT — A New York rapper who used to be on Jay-Z's record label pleaded guilty in connection to the fatal East Side slashing of a 20-year-old man.
Rapper Tru Life, whose real name is Robert Rosado, and his brother, Marcus, were initially charged with the murder of Christopher Guerrero in the apartment building lobby of 330 East 26th Street on June 15, 2009.
Another victim was slashed in the incident and the brothers were the only two to be charged in what was apparently a group attack.
But former Roc-a-Fella rapper Robert Rosado, 39, pleaded guilty to gang assault and Marcus Rosado, 34, to manslaughter on Wednesday.
Marcus even admitted in court on Wednesday, as part of the plea allocution, that he was the slasher in the group confrontation.
It is unclear why the charges were reduced but prosecutors said the reduced offer was made after evidence was carefully reviewed.
Alan Abramson, a defense lawyer for Tru Life, said there had been some issues with the case against his client.
"The offer is fair-minded given all the circumstances in this case," Abramson said, without elaborating.
The brothers are scheduled to reappear in court on March 15 for sentencing.
