STATEN ISLAND — A man accused of beating a gay man in the bathroom of the historic Stonewall Inn in October, was arrested in Staten Island on Monday for allegedly assaulting a homeless man and two police officers after a drug deal gone bad, according to SIlive.com.

Matthew Francis, 21, who was out on bail after being arraigned on multiple charges including assault as a hate crime in October, was arrested early Monday morning after an alleged drug deal involving Francis and Lattea Tate, 19, turned sour and they allegedly beat the third man, according to the website.

Francis and Tate reportedly fled the scene, but police found them within a few minutes and Francis resisted arrest by sitting on his hands, the paper reported. While resisting arrest, he allegedly kicked a police officer and was then subdued with pepper spray.

Police said that both men were intoxicated at the time of the incident and when an officer removed Francis's handcuffs while inside the police precinct, he lashed out and punched the officer.

Francis was arraigned in a Staten Island criminal court on Tuesday two counts of second-degree assault, three counts of second-degree harassment, and single counts of third-degree assault and resisting arrest, according to the site.

He was ordered to be held on $50,000 bail, SIlive.com wrote.

Francis pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and attempted robbery as hate crimes after he allegedly attacked Benjamin Carver in the bathroom at the Stonewall Inn on Christopher Street on Oct. 3.
