INWOOD — A fire tore through a one-story vacant retail building on Sherman Avenue Wednesday night.

It took nearly three hours for firefighters to put out the blaze at 157 Sherman Ave., which broke out at 9:37 p.m., fire officials said.

No injuries were reported and the two-alarm fire is under investigation, FDNY officials said.

Twitter was ablaze about the fire, which Inwood residents said they could see and smell from blocks away.

“#Inwood is SWARMING with firetrucks, tonight! Saw 3 at a fire on Academy & Sherman, and 3 since, headed further uptown. What is UP!??!?,” tweeted divahol.

“can smell the fire up at 218th and seaman #Inwood,” tweeted smallcapalerts.

Inwood resident Richard Hererra captured firefighters battling the blaze on his iPhone just after 10 p.m.

The fire was the second in the neighborhood this week, with a candy store and brand new juice bar on Broadway burning on Monday afternoon. The cause of that fire is also still under investigation.

In November 2007, four storefronts burned to the ground in a three-alarm fire nearby on Sherman. Those storefronts have yet to reopen.
