MANHATTAN SUPREME COURT — A former detective for the Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor was sentenced to five years probation after his conviction for lying about providing test-takers answers to the agency's detective exam.

Prosecutors said James Sutera, 29, had lied to investigators auditing the agency about helping out his colleagues on the test.

Sutera had allegedly failed the test twice himself before passing the third time with a near perfect score.

Sutera had faced up to seven years in prison. He was acquitted of two out of three counts of perjury in June.
