GOVERNORS ISLAND – The 15 minute ferry ride from Manhattan was like a time machine.

Governors Island went back 90 years for the fifth Jazz Age Lawn Party, a celebration of the music, the style - and the cocktails - of the Roaring '20s.

The party, which continues Sunday, features period games like tug-of-war, vintage clothing dealers, a parade of hats and a pie recipe contest.

On Saturday, fans in flapper costumes and Zoot suits danced the Charleston to the “hot and sweet” music of Michael Arnella and his Dreamland Orchestra, as onlookers sipped mint juleps and fanned themselves to stay cool.

Across the lawn, pearls shone and feathers bobbed as visitors set up picnic blankets to eat homemade barbeque.

“I love it, the costumes are amazing,” said Brooklyn resident Pam Epstein, who was dressed in white lace gloves and stockings.

It was Epstein’s first year at the lawn party, but for others it was an annual tradition.

Pennsylvania resident Chris Simmons said he is 1920s followers who frequently dressed up in the period, just for kicks.

“I kind of imbibed that period growing up,” Simmons, 60, said. “I think I try to relive it in some sort of fashion.”
