A first-grader, her brother, and their father were injured in a crash while walking to P.S. 9 this week.

DOT started implementing a plan to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety along the stretch this week.

The redesign will kick off next year and focus on Steinway Street between 28th and 35th Avenues.

All vehicle traffic on the park's East Drive will be prohibited starting July 17.

The DOT will lower the speed limit on three local streets to 20 miles per hour.

The crosswalk was installed on 97th Street between the Horace Harding Expressway and 62nd Drive. 

An advocate who posted the sign on Alderton St. will be fined unless she removes the sign immediately.

The Department of Transportation is considering adding a pedestrian island in front of P.S. 220.

The misdemeanor charges include failure to exercise due care, the relatively new "Vision Zero" law.

Officials are also pressing the DOT to add mid-block crosswalks along the busy shopping street.

The agency will bring their "safety action plan" to the community later this year, a spokeswoman said.

The city will add crosswalks, signs and roadway markings to make it easier for hikers to cross streets.

The traffic light comes after calls for safety changes on 21st Street.

The Department of Transportation unveiled pedestrian safety improvements near the Farragut Houses.

The intersection is one of the most dangerous in Brooklyn, the DOT said.
