GREAT KILLS — A developer plans to build three four-story buildings near the waterfront in a high-flood zone that faced heavy storm surges during Hurricane Sandy.

The plans seeks to build 94 residential units in total and would take over 117,991 square-feet of an empty patch of land on Tennyson Drive in Hurricane Evacuation Zone 1, according to the plans which were fire reported by New York YIMBY.

The planned buildings at 60, 70 and 80 Tennyson Drive will be some of the tallest in the area that generally has only townhouses and single-family homes. The spot will also include 114 parking spaces, the plans show.

Tora Development, the company that submitted the plans, originally tried to build a three-story building on the empty lot in 2011 with 84 units but the plans were rejected by the city, Department of Building records show.

The area was hit hard five years ago by Sandy, which flooded homes and sent boats from the nearby Great Kills Marina crashing into others.

The architecture and developer did not respond to requests for comments.
