BROOKLYN — NYPD officers shot a 19-year-old man armed with a BB gun, leaving him with life-threatening injuries, in East Flatbush on Thursday night, authorities said.

The NYPD received a call for a man with a gun inside a store on Church Avenue and East 34th Street about 10:05 p.m., the NYPD said. It wasn't immediately clear what he'd been doing in the store at the time.

“Upon arriving, the officers confronted the suspect inside the store,” NYPD Chief of Patrol Terence Monahan said.

“The officers attempted to take the suspect into custody. The suspect fled northbound on 34th Street, where he was observed with a firearm in his hand," Monahan said.

One of the officers then opened fire, hitting the suspect, whose name wasn't immediately released in the leg, police said.

He managed to keep running in the same direction until police caught him outside 189 E. 34th St., officials said.

The suspect was taken to Kings County Hospital in critical condition, police said.

He had not been charged as of Friday morning, police said.

Police recovered the BB gun at the scene.
