MANHATTAN — A young man was seriously injured after being shot in the leg in Kips Bay late Tuesday afternoon, authorities and the victim's mother said.

The victim was shot in the courtyard at 224 E. 28 St., near Second Avenue. at about 4:30 p.m., officials said.

He was taken to Bellevue Hospital in serious condition and was expected to survive, officials added.

A woman who identified her self as the victim's mother said her 17-year-old son was jumped by a group of men back in May.

"I told [police] that they jumped my son and what happens now?" said Teresa Arroyo. "My son gets shot, so the cops not doing their job."

A police source said the victim knew the shooter, but did not have any immediate information on what motivated the attack or if it was believed to be connected to an earlier incident.
