STATEN ISLAND — The body of the man who jumped off the Staten Island Ferry last week was found washed up on the shore near Fort Wadsworth on Monday night, police said.

The man, whose name is being withheld pending family notification, was found by officers on the rocks of the beach near 4 Wadsworth Ave. at about 7 p.m. after a 911 call, a spokesman for the NYPD said.

Police said the body matched the description of the person who leapt from the bow of the Spirit of America ferry near Governors Island at about 10:15 p.m. Thursday night.

The Coast Guard, NYPD and FDNY scoured the waters between Manhattan and Staten Island for more than two hours — throwing a life ring and sending a small boat into the water — in hopes of recovering him, officials said.

The NYPD called off its search shortly before 1 a.m., but the Coast Guard continued throughout the night without finding him.

Police could not say who found the man Monday night, but the Staten Island Advance reported it was children who were playing on the beach.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death, police said.
