THE BRONX — A drug dealer was arrested Friday morning for hiding a woman's body in a box and leaving it in a shopping cart about half a mile down the road from his front door, police said.

Darryl Orr, 57, dumped the remains of the 27-year-old woman, whose name wasn't immediately released, in a cart near East 182nd Street and Walton Avenue, where they were discovered by two bottle collectors about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday night, NYPD officials said.

Police initially said the remains were a man's, but revised their information Friday morning.

Manuel Vega, 61, and his friend walked up to the box and opened it to investigate, he said.

"He opened it even further and found the head. ... He kept digging even more and came to me saying, 'The ear! The ear!' I went back to the bag and [saw] it. I flicked the ear to make sure it wasn't a plastic doll. I panicked. We jumped on each other like two bozos," Vega said.

It wasn't immediately clear how the woman died or when Orr left her. The Medical Examiner will determine her cause of death.

Investigators got a tip about Orr and tracked him to his Walton Avenue address, just half a mile from where the body was found, and found him and various drugs Friday morning, police said.

Orr was arrested for concealment of a human corpse, possession of controlled substances, use of drug paraphernalia and sale of controlled substances, police said.

He hadn't been arraigned as of Friday morning, police said.

Orr has been arrested five times since 2004, but police records for those arrests are sealed, an NYPD spokesman said.
