PROSPECT-LEFFERTS GARDENS — A 43-year-old man was arrested this week after police caught him red-handed holding a knife he'd used to slash a 27-year-old man during a fight, police said.

The altercation took place at 1:10 a.m. on Aug. 6 in the lobby of 135 Ocean Ave. where Darren Kelly, 43, had been physically fighting with the younger man before stabbed him in the back.

An NYPD officer responding to the incident walked into the lobby and saw Kelly holding the knife used in the slashing. He was then arrested, police said.

The 27-year-old victim was treated for cuts on his back, but was otherwise uninjured in the attack.

Kelly has been charged with assault, menacing, harassment and criminal possession of a weapon. He was released from custody with a order of protection for the victim, court documents show.

He faces charges in two other open cases: one in Brooklyn for attempted assault and another in Manhattan for assault, both from earlier this year, according to court records. His legal representative from the Legal Aid Society could not be reached for comment.
