UPPER EAST SIDE — A would-be mugger slashed a 16-year-old in the face when the victim refused to hand over his cellphone aboard an R train Wednesday night, police said.
The suspect tried grabbing the teen's phone out of his hand before their train reached the 59th Street-Lexington Avenue station around 7:20 p.m., police said.
When the man wasn't successful, he used a knife to slash the teen on the right side of his face, police said.
He was taken to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in stable condition, authorities said.
The man, who was wearing a blue rag on his head, fled in an unknown direction, and police had been unable to track him down as of Thursday, the NYPD said.
