Police Impersonators Rob Victims of Cash and Cellphones, NYPD Says

By Katie Honan | August 3, 2017 9:11am

CORONA — A group of men posing as police officers stole cash and a cellphone from at least two victims last month, according to the NYPD.

The first victim, a 26-year-old man, was approached at 4:10 a.m. on July 16 in front of 34-61 110th St. by two men who said they were police officers.

They exited a light colored SUV, driven by another suspect, and took the victim's cellphone and wallet, which contained $20 and a bank card, police said.

On July 28, at around 12:30 a.m., the trio approached a 43-year-old man near 99th Street and 35th Avenue and searched his pockets, according to the NYPD.

At least one suspect flashed what looked like an NYPD badge.

The suspects then got in their SUV and fled, police said. All three appear to be between 19 and 25 years old.

If you have information about this incident please call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS or 1-888-57-PISTA for Spanish.
