BROOKLYN — The NYPD anti-crime officer critically injured when he was dragged by a teen driving a stolen car remains hospitalized, nearly two months after the harrowing incident, NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill said Friday.
Officer Dalsh Veve, 35, suffered “catastrophic head and brain injuries” when Justin Murrell, 15, dragged him with a stolen Honda for more than two blocks along East 53rd Street near Tilden Avenue in early June, police and prosecutors said.
“He’s still in long-term care over in Jersey,” O’Neill said following a promotions ceremony at NYPD headquarters. “I think he was brought back to Kings County (Hospital) for some tests yesterday, but it’s going to be a long road.”
Veve, who has a 2-year-old old daughter, managed to two squeeze off two rounds, striking Murrell in the face, as he was being dragged, police said.
Murrell has several prior arrests for robbery, menacing and criminal possession of stolen property.
He’s currently being held without bail.
