QUEENS — A man was seriously injured Friday afternoon after a package he was holding exploded, the FDNY said.
The unidentified man was standing next to his mailbox at 222nd Street between 145th Avenue and 145th Road in Brookville when the explosion occurred around 4:17 p.m., officials said.
He was taken to Nassau Community Medical Center for his injuries, fire officials said. He was injured around the head, the NYPD said.
It was unclear what caused the package to explode.
An investigation is ongoing, according to NYPD and FDNY officials.
