UNION SQUARE — A female thief snatched a 75-year-old woman's purse Thursday on a southbound 6 train and shoved her to the ground when she tried to take it back, police said.

The train had pulled into the Union Square subway station around 4:26 p.m. when the thief grabbed the victim's purse off the floor of the train and tried to run away, police said.

When the 75-year-old woman tried to stop the theft, the suspect shoved her to the floor and fled the train, police said.

The purse contained the victim's cell phone, bank cards and around $100 in cash, according to authorities.

Police have released surveillance footage of the suspect, described as a female of unknown age last seen wearing a black hoodie, blue jeans and white sneakers.
