CRIME BLOTTER: Man Injured and 3 Arrested in Maple Street Shooting

CROWN HEIGHTS — Police arrested a 29-year-old man this week after he shot and injured a 34-year-old man in a shootout on Maple Street, police said.

Joshua Richardson, 29, fired a handgun from inside 590 Maple St. at approximately 1:35 a.m. on July 2, striking the victim who was standing outside the home. The 34-year-old was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries at Kings County Hospital and is expected to survive, police said.

Richardson has been charged with attempted murder and is being held on $100,000 bail, court records show. His representative from Legal Aid Society could not be reached for comment.

Two other men, ages 21 and 36, were also arrested at the location after they refused to leave the scene of the shooting as police set up a crime scene. The 21-year-old was charged with disorderly conduct, obstruction and resisting arrest, all misdemeanor and violation charges, court records show. The 36-year-old pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, a violation, a law enforcement source said.

Other notable incidents in this week’s blotter from the 71st Precinct in Crown Heights, Prospect-Lefferts Gardens and East Flatbush include:​​​​​

► A 19-year-old man was arrested at Bedford Avenue and Montgomery Street on June 30 for riding a stolen Citi Bike. The teen was stopped by police for riding the bicycle the wrong way down Montgomery Street. Upon inspection, officers were told by a representative of Citi Bike the bicycle had been rented on June 25 by a different person and the bike had been missing since then. The 19-year-old was arrested and charged with criminal possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor, court records show.

► A 29-year-old woman was stabbed in the stomach, chest and arm by another woman who came at her with a kitchen knife on the corner of Beekman Place and Flatbush Avenue in the early morning hours of July 5. The assault took place at 12:40 a.m. when the suspect, an approximately 30-year-old woman, used a kitchen knife to stab the victim twice in the stomach, once on the chest and once to the left tricep. The victim took a taxi to Kings County Hospital where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect has not yet been arrested.

► A 58-year-old man was arrested for throwing rocks at a medical office’s windows. The man was seen at approximately 3:35 a.m. on July 5 throwing rocks at the office at 1202 Nostrand Ave., damaging the windows. Shawn Gonzalez was arrested and charged with criminal mischief in the third degree, a felony, court records show. He was released from custody and is due back in court on August 22.

► A worker at a MetroPCS store on Franklin Avenue reported that a teenage suspect threw a firecracker into the store during business hours, scaring customers and herself. The incident happened at 12:40 p.m. on July 5 at 837 Franklin Ave. The worker, a 25-year-old woman, said the suspect threw the lit firecracker into the store, which exploded near a customer. No one was injured during the incident and no arrest has been made.
