By Gwynne Hogan | July 3, 2017 9:49am | Updated on July 5, 2017 9:28am

CROWN HEIGHTS — A 69-year-old man told police he killed a suspected home invader while defending himself against the intruder Sunday morning, officials said.

Police received a 911 call at 9:55 a.m. for an assault in progress and responded to 1776 Union St., where they found a 48-year-old man with a head injury and the apartment's 69-year-old resident with minor injuries, police said.

The resident told police that the other man barged into his home and began attacking him and that he was fighting back in self defense, police said.

Emergency workers rushed the both men to Kings County Hospital, where the unidentified 48-year-old was pronounced dead and the resident was treated for cuts and bruises to his leg and torso, the NYPD said.

The incident was deemed a homicide, but no one had been arrested as of Monday morning.

Police were still investigating the incident.
