BROOKLYN — Police shot a man as he was stabbing his roommate with a kitchen knife right in front of them Sunday night, NYPD officials said.

Police arrived at the Shepherd Avenue address, near Ridgewood Avenue, about 9 p.m. to investigate reports of a fight there, according to NYPD Chief Jeffrey Maddrey.

Outside, they met several of the roommates, Francis DeJesus, 31, who then returned inside where he grabbed a knife and reemerged to stab the man in both forearms, police said.

"[DeJesus] began to chase his roommate as he tried to run away from him," Maddrey said.

Officers told DeJesus to drop the knife and fired a single shot at him when he didn't, police said.

DeJesus was treated at Brookdale Hospital, police said. He was later arrested for attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

The victim was treated at Jamaica Hospital, where he's listed in stable condition, police said.
