THE BRONX — A man tried to rape a woman near the New York Botanical Garden after exposing himself to the victim and offering her money for sex, the NYPD said.

The suspect started chatting up the 26-year-old victim near Mosholu Parkway and Southern Boulevard on May 29 sometime between midnight and 1:30 a.m. before following her into a nearby park, police said.

Once inside the park, he exposed himself to the woman and offered her money in exchange for performing a sex act on him, the NYPD said. When she refused and started to walk away, the attacker unbuttoned her pants and caused her to fall to the ground.

The victim got up and again tried to walk away, when the suspect put his hands down her shirt and fondled her, police said. He then fled in an unknown direction.

Police released a sketch of the suspect, who was described as 26 to 28 years old, standing 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-11, with a slim build, a beard, and was last seen wearing a gray hoodie, gray sweatpants and black sneakers.
