CROWN HEIGHTS — A man was fatally stabbed in the neck in a Brooklyn Avenue apartment building Tuesday morning, NYPD officials said.

The man, whose name and age weren't immediately released, was attacked on the second floor of 97 Brooklyn Ave., near Dean Street, and stumbled out before collapsing on the front steps with a bleeding gash in his neck about 10:50 a.m., a witness said.

"He was like, 'Help, help, call an ambulance,'" said Ben Cowan, who had just returned with his 6-year-old son from a grocery run.

"It looked like he stopped breathing in about a minute," Cowan said.

The man was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

The suspect fled east on Dean Street, but wasn't immediately arrested, police said.

Tuesday's attack was the first homicide in the 77th Precinct in 2017, records show.
