EAST ELMHURST — An airborne food spice at a screening checkpoint hospitalized three TSA agents at LaGuardia Airport on Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The agents' eyes became irritated after they were exposed to the seasoning at Terminal D just before 6 a.m., Port Authority officials said. Officials did not say what the seasoning was.

The agents were taken to Elmhurst Hospital as a precaution. The injuries were not believed to be serious, authorities said.

The terminal remained open, and flights were not affected, officials said.

The Health Department, which did not respond to a request for comment, took custody of the bag and was investigating.

The checkpoint was partially closed, but fully reopened just after 8:30 a.m., officials said.
