Man Found Dead on Uptown Amtrak Tracks, Police Say

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — A 28-year-old man was found dead on the Amtrak tracks near Riverside Drive and 177th Street just before midnight Friday in an apparent suicide, police said.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead on the scene and was not believed to have been there for very long before he was found by a midnight train operator who called the police, officials said.

The medical examiner did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Police said no further information was available as of Monday afternoon and that the investigation is ongoing.

In 2012, officials said a man was struck and killed by a southbound Amtrak train near West 158th Street. Passengers said the man was walking his bicycle when the accident occurred.
