WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — A man was struck and killed by a southbound Amtrak train near West 158th Street Thursday afternoon, rail and fire officials said.

The Empire Service train from Albany hit the unidentified person about 2:30 p.m. on the right-of-way, Amtrak spokesman Craig Schulz said.

Trains traveling both directions were temporarily suspended while the NYPD and Amtrak police investigated the death, Schulz said.

Passenger Jonathan Butler tweeted that the person was walking his bicycle on the track bed.

Service both ways resumed at 4 p.m.
