Woman Fights Off Groper in Kips Bay Elevator, Police Say

KIPS BAY — A groper followed a woman into her Kips Bay building and sexually assaulted her in the elevator, according to a police report.

The victim, a 53-year-old woman, was walking into her building near East 24th Street and Lexington Avenue just after 6 a.m. Monday when the suspect followed her in, police said.

When she went into the elevator he forcibly groped her breasts over and under her shirt, but the woman was able to fight off her attacker, and he fled east on 24th Street, according to a police report.

The attacker was described as a man between 40 and 50 years old, standing about 5-feet-6-inches tall, and was last seen wearing a green hat, a green jacket, black and white sweatpants and black and white sneakers, police said.
