MANHATTAN — A man surrendered to police Wednesday morning, a day after he stabbed a man who staggered into a Hell's Kitchen police station before dying, NYPD officials said.

The suspect, who can be seen in police footage released Tuesday night, surrendered to police in the Times Square subway station about 12:25 a.m. Wednesday, telling them they needed to arrest him because he was armed with knives, an NYPD spokesman said.

Investigators recovered two blades on him, the spokesman said.

Police said he stabbed a 66-year-old man, who sources identified as Timothy Caughman, in the chest and back during a fight near West 36th Street and Ninth Avenue about 11:25 p.m. Monday, police said.

Caughman managed to make his way to a nearby NYPD stationhouse where he was then taken to Bellevue Hospital and pronounced dead, police said.

Police released footage Tuesday night showing the suspect fleeing the scene while wearing  a long black coat.

The suspect, whose name wasn't immediately released, hadn't been formally charged as of 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, police said. It wasn't yet clear what sparked the homicide.
