NYPD Traffic Agent Busted for Violating Wife's Order of Protection: Police

By Katie Honan | March 16, 2017 1:34pm

CORONA — An NYPD traffic officer arrested last November for harassing his wife by pressing her to take out a life insurance policy was busted again after violating her order of protection against him, authorities said.

Jose Hernandez, 60, was arrested on criminal contempt charges for calling his wife on the phone this week, although it's unclear why he called, police said. He's restricted from any contact with her.

She filed the order of protection against him last fall after Hernandez called her up to 20 times a day for weeks pushing her to take out a life insurance policy, police said.

He also called and texted her multiple times asking her to co-sign on a car loan, police added.

When she wouldn't answer, Hernandez showed up to her job in his traffic officer uniform to continue to harass her, according to police.

Hernandez, who was still working with the NYPD following November's arrest, is now suspended, a police spokesman said.
