MURRAY HILL — A robber beat a woman over the head repeatedly with a blunt object during an attempted purse-snatching on Second Avenue, according to a police report.

A 37-year-old woman was walking on Second Avenue near East 34th Street just before midnight on Feb. 26 when a man came up behind her and struck her in the head with an unknown object, police said.

The attacker yanked on the woman’s purse, dragging her to the ground, and repeatedly smashed her in the head with the bludgeon, but she managed to hold onto her belongings and the man fled empty-handed, according to a police report. The woman walked to NYU Langone Medical Center around the corner for treatment, police said.

Police described the attacker as a man around the age of 30 with a scruffy beard, standing about 5-feet-9-inches tall, and was last seen wearing a black puffy coat, torn blue jeans and dark shoes, according to a police report.
